Orlando City SC announced on July 19, 2026, that it has signed forward Daryl Dike to a free agent contract through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season. The 26-year-old striker returns to his first professional club after spending five seasons with West Bromwich Albion FC in England’s EFL Championship. This roster move comes as Orlando City prepares for the second half of its Major League Soccer season, following a break for international World Cup qualifiers.
Striker Returns from English Football
Dike, originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, brings significant experience to the Lions' attack. Across 138 professional appearances in England and previously with Orlando City, he has recorded 43 goals and nine assists. During his initial tenure with Orlando City, which began when he was selected fifth overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, Dike made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists.
“Daryl is a player our club and our fans know well, and we’re very excited to welcome him back to Orlando,” said Ricardo Moreira, the general manager and sporting director. “He brings a powerful combination of strength, speed and physical presence.”
The acquisition includes $75,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) paid to Seattle Sounders FC for Dike’s Discovery Priority rights. An additional $75,000 GAM is contingent upon specific performance-based metrics being met during the contract period.

The signing of Dike serves as a strategic addition ahead of a challenging schedule. Orlando City (4-9-2) faces immediate tests against two top-tier opponents. The team travels to face the San Jose Earthquakes, who currently sit second in the Western Conference with 32 points. Following that match, Orlando returns home for its first post-break contest against Nashville SC on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Nashville leads the Eastern Conference with 36 points and previously defeated Orlando City 5-0 earlier this year. The Lions are also preparing for structural changes in league scheduling; MLS is transitioning to a summer-to-spring calendar starting in 2027, requiring teams to play a condensed 14-match season from February to May of that year, according to France24.
Homegrown Talent Development
In addition to the high-profile signing of Dike, Orlando City SC has advanced two homegrown players. Goalkeeper Tristan Himes, 22, signed his first-team contract through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season with options for subsequent years. A native of DeBary in Volusia County, Himes made his professional debut in July 2025 and recorded 34 saves across 11 appearances with Orlando City B.
The club also signed defender Clovis Archange to a first-team contract through the 2029 calendar year. Born in Cameroon and raised in Montreal, the 17-year-old previously anchored the Orlando City U18 team that won the 2025 Generation adidas Cup. These moves highlight the organization's dual focus on immediate roster strength via experienced free agents and long-term development through its academy system.
