Former Florida Gators center Micah Handlogten has officially committed to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) for the upcoming men's basketball season. The 7-foot-1 big man entered the NCAA transfer portal in April, following the conclusion of Florida’s 2025-26 campaign. This move allows Handlogten to remain within the Southeastern Conference (SEC), having spent his previous three collegiate seasons with the Gators. His arrival at Ole Miss is scheduled for August 28, 2026, according to reports from Gators Wire.
Eligibility Questions and NBA Ties
A significant factor surrounding Handlogten’s transition involves his eligibility status. Reports indicate conflicting information regarding whether the player signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Under NCAA regulations, signing such a professional contract can impact a student-athlete's remaining college eligibility. If it is determined that he did sign the agreement, this could complicate or hinder his case for receiving a fifth year of collegiate competition.
The decision to pursue an additional season comes after Handlogten gave up his redshirt status in February 2025. He returned to help Florida’s frontcourt while teammate Alex Condon dealt with injuries, appearing in 34 games last season. During that time, he averaged 4.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game over an average of 14.8 minutes on the court.

Ole Miss secured Handlogten’s commitment over other interested programs, including North Carolina State University (NC State) and the University of Southern California (USC).
