Five Central Florida competitors have advanced to the Eastern Regional Finals of NBC’s "American Ninja Warrior," marking a significant showing for local athletes on national television. Among those qualifying is Olivia Lopez, a high school senior from Gotha who was 16 years old when filming took place and recently turned 17. The group represents a diverse range of ages and backgrounds within the region, demonstrating strong athletic capabilities in obstacle course racing.

Local Talent Takes Center Stage

Lopez’s journey to the finals began with childhood inspiration; she started watching the show at age five alongside her grandmother. She began training around age 10 or 11 and has since balanced rigorous physical preparation with a demanding academic schedule, including Advanced Placement courses. Her father serves as both a weightlifting coach and mentor, supporting her dual focus on sports medicine aspirations and high school academics.

Other notable qualifiers include Aaron Diehl of Windermere, the youngest local competitor at 15 years old; Grace Gordon of Orlando, who was recorded completing the qualifier course without falling as the fastest female in her heat; Garrett Morris of Ocala, an 18-year-old who earned a $10,000 bonus by conquering the Mega Wall; and Avery Glantz of Orlando, a University of Central Florida student competing in her fifth season.

Regional Finals Structure and Broadcast Details

The Eastern Regional Finals will feature a new format involving head-to-head races. Lopez noted that this structure requires competitors to manage their pace while monitoring opponents, differing from the standard qualifier where athletes run alone against the clock. The finals are scheduled to air on Monday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and its sister station WESH 2.

As these Central Florida natives prepare for the next stage of competition, they represent a growing presence in regional sports coverage. Their advancement highlights the depth of athletic talent available across Orlando, Gotha, Windermere, Ocala, and surrounding communities as they compete for spots in subsequent national rounds.
