SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A 31-year-old Orlando resident has died following an alligator attack in Central Florida on Sunday. Brittany Clark was swimming in the Econlockhatchee River when she was bitten by a reptile at Little Big Econ State Forest. Her boyfriend, who was present during the incident, described the event as something they never expected to happen given her love for water activities.
Investigation and Official Response
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has launched an investigation into the deadly encounter. Frank Robb, a specialist with more than three decades of experience dealing with Florida alligators, noted that the FWC follows rigorous protocols during such incidents. Officials captured two gators following the attack: a 13-foot reptile found near where Clark was severely bitten and another measuring 12-and-a-half feet located approximately half a mile away.
Forensic Testing and Safety Guidelines
The FWC has submitted DNA samples from the harvested alligators to a laboratory in Gainesville. Investigators are analyzing tissue from the animals' mouths and stomachs to confirm their involvement in the attack. Robb emphasized that eyewitness accounts, such as those provided by Clark's friends who called 911, assist investigators significantly.
Community Remembrance
An online fundraiser has been established for Clark, describing her death as a "completely bizarre accident." The campaign aims to raise funds to return her remains to her parents in California. Friends and family remember Clark as an avid bike rider and dog lover with a fun-loving spirit.
