A Florida streamer known as Clavicular is facing criminal charges after authorities allege he discharged a firearm at a dead alligator during a livestream in March. According to court records, prosecutors have charged the individual with a misdemeanor count for discharging a firearm in a public area. The incident reportedly took place in the Everglades and the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area, locations where officials state the shots were fired on public land.
Incident Details and Investigation
Investigators state that the alligator was already deceased and floating in the water when Clavicular pulled out a handgun and began shooting at the carcass. The event was captured on video during the livestream and subsequently circulated online, prompting an investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Authorities note that the act violated laws prohibiting the firing of weapons in public spaces, near roadways, or in occupied areas. If convicted, Clavicular could face up to a year in jail.
Legal Defense and Context
Two other individuals connected to the incident have been hit with the same charge, according to reports. While the alligator was not alive at the time, law enforcement sources noted that the situation could have carried more serious consequences if the animal had been living. The American alligator is protected under federal law due to its similarity to other threatened species, meaning harming a live animal could trigger additional charges.
Clavicular’s legal team has pushed back on the allegations, asserting that their client was acting based on directions from a licensed airboat guide during the excursion. In a statement, the attorneys said, “Our client has been summoned to appear for a misdemeanor charge that stems from following the instructions of a licensed airboat guide. No animals or people were harmed, and we are confident that the full context will clarify the situation.” Clavicular is expected to appear in court as the case moves forward.
