TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Attorney General’s Office announced on Thursday that 49 individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a major undercover investigation into drug trafficking organizations operating across several Central Florida counties. The arrests, resulting from "Operation Ice Breaker II," culminated in synchronized search warrants executed on June 30, 2026. Attorney General James Uthmeier stated that the year-long probe targeted networks responsible for distributing dangerous substances, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
Coordinated Law Enforcement Effort
The operation involved a collaborative effort among multiple state and local law enforcement agencies. Key participants included the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, and the Daytona Beach Police Department. Investigators utilized various techniques to dismantle these criminal networks, including trap-and-trace orders, phone monitoring, surveillance operations, and controlled purchases.
During the raids executed on June 30, authorities confiscated significant evidence of illegal activity. Seized items included large quantities of illicit drugs, cash, digital scales, telephones, cutting agents, and other paraphernalia associated with drug distribution. The investigation focused heavily on Polk and Volusia counties, though the alleged trafficking networks extended their reach into Flagler, Marion, Orange, and Saint Johns counties, as reported by Orlando Ledger.
Targeting Gang-Linked Distribution
A notable aspect of the takedown involved a raid in Holly Hill, located less than 30 feet from a church. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood identified this location as a hub for members of the "Cut Throat Murderers" gang. According to Sheriff Chitwood, drugs were being distributed from the property, and firearms used in recent shootings originated there.
The pastor of the nearby church told FOX 35 that the building was primarily used to house homeless individuals and assist people seeking to rebuild their lives. She denied any knowledge of illegal activities occurring inside the structure. Despite this denial, law enforcement maintained that the site served as a critical node in the drug distribution network, DW reported.
Prosecution and Future Investigations
The individual cases arising from Operation Ice Breaker II will be prosecuted by the Office of Statewide Prosecution in collaboration with the State Attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit. The Florida Attorney General’s Office indicated that the investigation is ongoing, stating that more arrests are expected as law enforcement continues to pursue leads related to these trafficking organizations.
Attorney General Uthmeier emphasized the impact of the operation on public safety in a prepared statement. "This joint investigation dismantled a criminal organization that pumped deadly fentanyl and other dangerous drugs into Florida communities," Uthmeier said. He added, "Through the tireless work of Florida’s law enforcement, state attorneys, and our statewide prosecutors, we have arrested 49 traffickers and disrupted these networks." Local officials echoed this sentiment, with Volusia County Sheriff Chitwood noting that those arrested are no longer able to operate as merchants of death in their community.
